The project consists of 12 five foot tall fish sculptures which are being placed at various locations throughout the City. I photographed these sculptures today while visiting the Pompano Beach Library near A1A.

David-MDCSculpture_TH37405

This sculpture was created by Eladio de Mora (aka dEmo) and was crafted in the likeness of Michelangelo’s emblematic David, and dressed by the famous fashion house Missoni. According to MDC’s website, “This installation is a contribution to the renaissance of the arts at MDC’s North Campus, where a new gallery was built five years ago and the Miami International Sculpture Park was inaugurated with world-renowned art donations. It is one of the largest parks of its kind in the state of Florida and currently features 69 works of art, including another dEmo sculpture, Niños, a tribute to Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.” (Source: MDC.edu)

David “Lee Brown constructed this sculpture by connecting industrial steel tubing materials, then twisted the linear configuration to give the form of ‘flight’ to the whole composition. It reminds the viewer of time-lapsed photography of up-lifting motion.” (Source: Broward.org)

This structure is at the entrance to the Greenbelt Airport Park on Griffin Road south of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Public Art: Island Garden at Long Key Nature Center

Island Garden at Long Key Nature Center in Davie Florida is an architectural artwork designed by artist Lorna Jordan. It was installed in 2009 and is about 120 feet long and 88 feeet wide.

“This gathering place has spiraling forms that rise up from water and the surrounding landscape. It includes a pavilion, water elements, plantings, and rustic terrazzo benches and paving. As people spiral through the artwork, a sequence of intermittent vertical screens provides a sense of enclosure. Openings between screens frame views of the surrounding landscape—groves of live oaks, an island teaming with wildlife, and water bodies reminiscent of the original everglades.” (Source: Broward.org)

The sculpture above is called Niños, and it is located outside the daycare center at MDC North Campus, 11380 NW 27th Avenue, Miami. It was designed by Spanish artist Eladio de Mora aka dEmo.

This symbol is part of a multi-media project named Route to Human Rights which is the brainchild of International Solidarity for Human Rights (ISHR). It was unveiled at MDC-North on Saturday December 10, 2011.

The mission of Route to Human Rights is to place art created by local and international artists at 30 locations in Florida. Each sculpture/symbol represents a different article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Niños sculpture is the second placement in the project and represents Article 2: “The right to freedom from discrimination.”
